Welcome to the forum Teresa! When you say “talk” what exactly do you mean?

You can exchange posts here on the board, send private messages and I have had skype calls with people from the board. That usually takes a while before it happens as mutual trust needs to be built first. And obviously both parties need to feel the desire to do it.

Feel free to ask questions. Background usually helps. Like what kind of stuff you have, is it organized or not, what keeps you from parting with it (if you know) you can talk about triggers or stressors.

Jump right in and hopefully you will benefit as much as people will benefit from you sharing your story!

        Dear Teresa,

Welcome to here.  A good way to start might be to read some of our ‘conversations ‘ and some from the archives ( that might go back a few years).  Then maybe we can all support and encourage one another.  We have different ideas and approaches and they all help.

        Welcome again 🤗

          Dear Teresa,

          Just to say,

If you go to the menu button and the go to ‘browse.’ You will see a button to MINDS information page.  I’ve just read the information leaflets on hoarding there, it is very good; I wish I had read it before. It is straightforward.  There is also a blog from someone ( in a link from the leaflet), that is very good too.

Do read them if you haven’t already.

I have done a lot of work, but I have a bit of a way to go.  I hope you are o.k., you look so sad in your photo.

          B

Hi thanks for the advice and thanks for taking good notice that I look sad very kind of you to take notice of someone who you don’t know and most people don’t take the time to even think are they ok or they look down etc. I have been struggling in several ways lately and everything just gets on top of me and then I feel like I’m buried alive but I trying to fight on x

Keep on fighting Teresa! You are not alone! We got and get you! If you want to reply to a message on the board for everyone to be able to read it you hit “reply” then it will show up as the next message. If the message is intended for only 1 person you  hit private message. I must warn you though, most people don’t check their privat e messages it seems and it can take a long time for them to notice it. So saying: I sent you a PM in the public messages can speed that up.

Its fine to post how awful it is here, without it being about seeking information or ideas. People here know all too well what it can feel like!

Its hard to do much when you are low and sad. Dont give yourself a hard time about all the stuff! Set yourself achievable goal as you are now. Someone who had rooms fulk of stuff was removing 3 things a day. It could be just one or two if that seems too much. It may make it feel a little less overwhelming.

Get out of the house regularly. Its a good thing to do anyway when you are feeling low, but also gives you time not surrounded by stuff.

You talk about being sad and low-  sometimes that means having depression? If it might be, and you havent looked for information about it already, try http://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/types-of-mental-health-problems/depression/about-depression/

I have depression and it can be a viscous circle of not feeling able to do anything about the hoarding, and the hoarding causing depression.

Dear Teresa and Odd socks, glad to see you here this morning!  I have had the depressions since my teens ( I estimate 35 yrs), it is very important to talk about this too, I think.  I try to encourage myself and others but sometimes I am very poorly indeed.

                            dear Teresa,

two ideas….start by making yourself a cup of tea ☕ and find a cleared space where you can make notes, read and take a break.

                            Then you have ‘lift off’,

If you already have your thinking/ planning space, please forgive me, but it is a good place to start.

Hi I am new here, but not to the hoarding. I come from at least 3 generations back with this problem. Now my siblings and I have it too. I am happy to have located this place to open up and find others struggling with this too. I describe myself as a hoarding long hauler. Some items I have moved over 6 times.

I wrote my first message under Crafts started by, BetterWithLess. It was a long explanation, etc. about my association with craft materials.  I went to grab the name of the author and the whole lengthy pouring of my soul was lost. Ahhhh. I have taken a deep breath and landed here as the second try at engagement on this subject.

I am making progress but I have been at this since I hit 50. I am almost 65. I still have two pretty full rooms of art related items. I am hoping to get the last bit of control before I retire in a year. Looking for tips and strategies and a place to cry out when things get rough!

Thank you Newbie and BetterWithLess for starting these streams of interaction. I already feel a little less alone in this struggle.

Welcome to the forum. Have you unpacked the items in between moves? I haven’t hahaha! You are not alone! Well done on all the progress you made! I am looking forward to hearing more from you. Strategies for what? Specific categories? Like art supplies? Or more general?
