Hello Joel, welcome to the forum!
You’ ve certainly found the right place for someone struggling with hoarding! And fine to share if you are feeling down and overwhelmed.
From the perspective of ideas to tackle it, have a look at the expert ones in the ‘self help’ section of this site. And also on Mind’s page http://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/types-of-mental-health-problems/hoarding/about-hoarding/ (I havent made that a link as sometimes submit doesnt work if they are included).
Plus browsing on posts here.
Moving things around a lot:
Of course its much simpler said than done, but ideally deciding where a category of things should be helps not move things endlessly. As you may have read, moving things around several times has even got a name- ‘churning’.Its about being more organised rather than decluttering. Tho of course its great if that happens! It can make you aware of how many items you have in a category. For example, I decided a space for bags/handbags. Found out I had rather a lot! Means more likely not to buy more and I know where to find one. I’m not perfect- it overflowed my intended spot for it, so some has got muddled in my general clutter. You’ll get the general idea?
Anyway, lots of luck and you can be sure that you are not on your own!
Hello to Teresa, John-Na and Joel,
I hope you will find some relief and strategies in here…and some connections, wishing you healing.
Hello!
I was excited and comforted to find this site. I am a newbie too, and have been reading older posts.
Looking forward to our journeys together! 🙌A
