Not in any way being dismissive, but just as a start have a look at the ‘friends and family’ section on this website?

Hi there, thanks for the reply! I have already looked at those materials before I made the post, just looking for any additional.

OK that worked. Will keep this message short. One  *general* thing I said was mentioning mind’s pages on hoarding, particularly the pages for friends and family. I dont dare put a link in case thats what deleted the others, so I will just say: Google MIND . Search site for hoarding.  Menu on left side of page has the friends and family.

I know you wanted something more specific- wont risk  a longer post now!

              Trying another post!

              NHS better than Council?

Great that the therapy is working- often doesnt!

Its a difficult one as it might damage your relationship if you don’t ask first, but maybe making sure that her GP knows she hasn’t left the house in a year- that’s more than just hoarding from a GPs interest. And that they don’t have heating/hot water?

In the context that shes not going outside and wont let anyone in its going to be difficult as the only contact a health/social worker would have is by be via the phone.

              Council

Which department were you thinking of?

              Adult social services

Unfortunately, they are under huge pressure. My experience was the phone assessment was only about social care things eg having at least one serious problem with daily living (eg cooking, dressing). Rather than a mental health perspective (that is something they do too)

The others will prioritise the state of the house rather than her state. Tho they should be understanding and give some sort of notice to make enough change for their concerns, not just suddenly turn up with a skip! They are housing (if they are council tenants) and environmental health

I wish there was something further that would help a lot. They are very lucky that you are helping them! Be clear that its up to them to take any action- you are working alongside them as you care about them, not being a boss!

What is happening in therapy (if they don’t mind sharing the confidential information) that is helping? Focus on what can be motivation- how will life be easier with less clutter?

The info for hoarders on this site and Mind’s about tactics might be useful? If they go online, they can check it out directly. It can be something where you are sharing the info rather than telling them what to do.

If they are being inconsistent you could maybe point that out , in the context of is there a different more manageable level (for them). This could be deeply frustrating if its doing less and more slowly tho

This has all been really valuable by the way! Currently I am still exploring the EFT techniques videos, as there are additional ones on the channel, and I underestimated how much this was affecting me. Some progress has been made in the house, the stairs up and down in the house are looking organised and sorted, and family communication is a little smoother. Will try to check in later once I can better assess this information in relation to the situation.
