ParticipantSorry to hear of your situation and that I am not able to help. It might be easier to find someone to lend you the money to pay for one more month than find a ne location and move it all. In case you can’t find funds or a new location I would advice you focus on saving the most precious things. Like fotos and things like that

Thank you for your reply. The situation is dire … and takes a bit of explanation/ understanding.
This isn’t easy, as those with hoarding behaviours know …
In brief:
While I was looking after a parent with dementia, the council wrongly labelled my own mortgaged home as an ‘Empty Dwelling’ – I found out much later that my home was exempt on the basis of caring for a parent.
There had been a flood throughout my home – the insurance company didn’t start any repairs for 12months, ceilings, walls, floors…
My mental health was very fragile. being moved from hotel room to hotel room to one week lets to a 6month tenancy … I was working then too.
…
The council pursued me relentlessly, dismissive of my mental health issues + took my home off me. Rather than giving me help with my mental health, the council broke me down. I was in utter meltdown, at a complete standstill. The council saw this as an ‘innovative way of getting new housing stock’ for its tenants – at my expense.
Many of my possessions went into storage.
I have been trying to recover for years.
I can no longer pay for the storage, I am in arrears.
I still don’t have my home back – if I had my home, I wouldn’t have needed the storage …
I had a plan to tackle my hoarding behaviours back in 2013.
The council has trashed my life.
I haven’t been able to think clearly while I’ve been in utter meltdown, deep depression.
Now I feel lost …

Thank you so much for your kind thoughts and words:) There is so much shame and isolation with this condition – so little tolerance from some quarters …
I don’t know how this will pan out over the next week, I can’t imagine losing my things all over again …
Thank you for your reply:)

ParticipantI wish Kim was here. She knows a lot about where to get help and where to stay away from. I am of zero help in this I am afraid. Where do you live right now? June 22, 2019 at 12:31 am #112607everHopeful
Is Kim a member of this group? I’m in the East of England – Norwich, Norfolk.
I am in some kind of limbo, not knowing how this will pan out.
I still have access to the storage facility…
I am trying hard to sort this and retrieve what little bits I can. I feel so desperate, so defeated by the enormity of the task. I don’t know where to put my stuff securely.
I’m also so very slow. chronic depression.
Thank you for staying in touch at this difficult time …

ParticipantOh, sorry, I didn’t mean your location, I was wondering if you are still in a hotel or with friends, or what the situation is. Kim is a member of this group, she has had health issues and has not been here for a while. While retrieving see whit how much you can part. The fewer items left to store elsewhere the easier it will be. I have no idea how much stuff it is. You got this. Can you mentally split up the task? and focus on just the small task to make it feel less daunting?

Just wondering, what support does the Care Act give to hoarders?
and how can I get that help?

ParticipantI am not even in the UK. Sorry. No idea June 24, 2019 at 1:22 pm #112603squirrelnutkin
You could try Norwich Mind 01603432457, Mind UK’s general website. Also Age UK maybe. June 26, 2019 at 3:00 am #112602everHopeful
Hi! So lovely that you’re reaching out to me from somewhere around the world + when I’m at such a low point.
Feeling so desperate I’ve reached a point of not being able to do anything. Except stay under the duvet.
A frightened animal taking cover to lick its wounds until it feels better – then it can emerge into the world again.
The mental wounds, scars that can be difficult to see.
Exhausted. Can’t think.
Hope I can recover some strength for tomorrow.

I know MIND in Croydon run counselling for hoarding behaviours, with the option of a de clutter buddy, but not every MIND has this. Just noticed http://www.norfolksafeguardingadultsboard.info … look under the “professionals” tab then in the list “self-neglect” . You can click through to a long document on this page which answers your query about the Care Act. This guidance was only added 26 June 2019, so very timely! Let us know how you get on.June 30, 2019 at 10:00 am #112608bluesyjay
Participanthope you are somewhat feeling some relief, I am myself in a state of limbo and pain, I can relate
sometimes there is also such a mental/emotional exhaustion at being under pressure for finding a solution that we just crash physically as well,
there is a lot about self-care in this issue
learning to self-care in every possible way is key
wishing you to feel uplifted and find your way through

Hi – not sure how you are getting on with sorting your situation. I wonder have you tried social media or a small ad asking if anyone local has any storage space they are not using for a reasonable sum? As the commercial storage facilities are very pricey, I know to my expense from helping out family hoarders. Just a thought but I have seen all sorts advertised on local market sites. Also if you can go and reduce your hoard any (I know that is nigh impossible for many hoarders) but you then could have a smaller and cheaper storage space – better than losing it all.
Hope you get a solution.
