ParticipantHavent watched it, but in general such programmes start with filming a person and their hoard being overwhelming and shocking. Then the ad break, then them in that home virtually empty of clutter. I want to know the in-between and most important thing is how they got there!

ParticipantWhat was the name of the programme please? I have found the catch-up website,so I can watch it! December 16, 2019 at 9:26 am #113162GailMorley
ParticipantIt’s called Hoarders: Landfill In My Living Room. December 16, 2019 at 11:32 pm #113155Oceannia
ParticipantI’m watching at the moment. It was sympathetic but for me it didn’t address the emotions associated with hoarding or the causes. These programmes usually go with the shock value unfortunately. December 17, 2019 at 1:05 am #113156ShedTheShame

To me,
the underlying emotional issues are critical. Yet programs — and even researchers — don’t focus on this
So I’m not surprised that their treatment programs have a low success rate.

ParticipantI saw some of it, recorded the rest, but I didn’t find it useful or even all that interesting. It was rather sad to find that the woman with cancer did not survive for very long.

ParticipantI thought that even the title – landfill in my living room was flippant and showed a lack of understanding. Yes, I started out removing things which could go into the rubbish, but there were quite a few things which simply needed to go back to the proper place, or where I’d acquired too many – once I got them to where they should be I realised this and took them to charity shops, or to the knitting machine show in Bournemouth each year to sell them off.
I’ve also been able to throw out old clothes, make new ones and enjoy doing craftwork.
After a long gap I am making candles again, and making money from that, which is pleasing.

ParticipantYou’ve done so well nana. I completely agree with the feedback about the tv programme. It was interesting to see the difficult dynamics with the family but unfortunately many tv programmes on hoarding focus on the shock value and slight comedy of hoarding and completely miss now difficult and distressing this condition is. They don’t focus at all on how to manage the emotions or the causes of hoarding. I think it’s on again next week so will see.
