General Discussion › Its getting even worse!
So sorry things are hard right now. I am in a nasty funk myself. Would a declutter party help? We could team up or have a challenge on here.
I have been so busy getting ready for the replacement windows – it has been a long road for me to really see a big difference, but once I could make a start – the three things to do every morning without fail – it did start the whole process – even though I was not all that hopeful at first. Even though it was actually a physical shock to see a clear sink – it did make a difference.
Big black bags can be intimidating – I used small bags – easy to fill easy to discard, and there was a sense of achievement when I got to the end of a roll. They also seem more innocent. I once was set back by a neighbour saying ‘having a clear out?’ when I took a black bag out – the daft thing was that it wasn’t the product of sorting out but an old duvet I’d used for stuffing a toy and was disposing of the rest.
Sorting out did make a mess in some places so it did get worse before it got better – but I was less fragile mentally by then and just kept slogging away until it did get better – and it gave access to a cupboard I found was empty!!
Changing habits can be done – but it is a long and rather painful process – however, rather like dealing with toothache, the long term benefits seem worth it after a while.
Sometimes those little comments can be devastating. I once had things lined up by the door to donate and someone came by to pick up my child and said with a cheeky grin:”are you moving?” It’s been 10 years and I still remember the shame that washed over me. I figured last time I let you take a peek past the door.
I am working on not caring about the stupid comments. It is what it is, I am working on it and it is constantly improving. My house is cluttered, but the people I have told that I am a hoarder have just laughed at me and said:”No you are not.”
We can get there. One day at a time.
