ParticipantI think it’d be an amazingthing for you to set up a local self-help group, Paul Pippofan1:!: You know what they say in AA: “Give it away to keep it.” If you help someone else, you will be helped
I took a
Buried in Treasuresworkshop in Southern California. A local senior center runs it. I believe they get some funding from the city, and there’s a nominal charge for attendees. This particular senior center also offers on-going, bi-monthly support sessions for those who complete the workshop. The support sessions are free of charge. Recently I went to the support session to share more about the presentation I gave at an annual hoarding conference. They were very warm and receptive

At their next session, a guest speaker will share information on how to practice mindfulness.
A
free Facilitator Guidefor Buried in Treasuresworkshops is available and gives step-by-step instructions on how to set up and run the workshop. More information can be found herehttps://mutual-support.com/the_buried_in_treasures_workshop ” class=”bbcode_url”> https://mutual-support.com/the_buried_in_treasures_workshop Please keep us posted on how things progress. I hope others will be motivated by your actions to start a self-help group in their own community

Hello ShedTheShame; thank you for your positive feedback and also for the link to Buried in Treasures. I have just been reading through the link, and I am truly amazed at hoarding is a global problem. For some reason, I had always thought it was a British problem. While I was going through my own problem, I suggested to the housing manager that had been involved in my case that I could turn my experience to good use to help others. He said that that would be a great thing to be involved. 10 weeks on from my clearance (which I had requested, after making somewhat piffling attempts to do it myself), I am continuing to fight the temptation to buy things I neither need or want. I’ve recently replaced the suite, the bed, the facilities and the heating system (with various teams of tradesmen). The house still has problems, but I feel as though am getting there, along with the help of some really good friends. I find, most of all, now that the house is clear of clutter, my mind is clear, too. I’m continuing to receive medication and counselling for depression. I feel as though I am getting stronger daily, and would love to give someone else the opportunity to start again.
