Welcome, clarepurchase. Sorry to hear of your urgent situation. I don’t live in the UK, but I found this resource to search for professional organizers by specialism, including Hoarding Disorder. https://www.apdo.co.uk/find-an-organiser/” class=”bbcode_url”>https://www.apdo.co.uk/find-an-organiser/

In the US, I have participated in hoarding conferences and met professional organizers who attended to learn about HD. So there are professional organizers who are familiar with the condition. Be aware that HD is challenging to treat and requires a LOT of patience.

Wishing you and your mum success,

      StS

        Some ideas:

        Somersetcounselling.org David Trott

        wecr.org.uk

        Mind.org.uk

        Age UK

Hoarding is now coming within category of “self-neglect” and is recognised by Local Safeguarding Adult Boards. If uouare searching local authority (council) websites for help, try searching “self-neglect”

I haven’t had personal experience of any of these services but wecr.org.uk (We Care Home Improvements) looked suitable for your requirements (and may be quicker to start rather than deal with referrals etc) they will send someone to work one-to-one with your Mum.

Sorry to hear about your mum.

APDO https://www.apdo.co.uk/ doesnt have standards for competence, which is what is so important, but does have a code of ethics. Not all the services listed will include helping with hoarding- you’d need to check?

Unfortunately, given the state of her house there may be health and safety problems which would mean someone comes to look, but decides it would not be safe for them to work there.

It can be really expensive paying for someone to come and help.

Squirrelnutkins has already given some suggestions. I would say that MIND rarely runs projects for hoarders, but they do have a database with information about resources and services run by them but also by others. https://www.mind.org.uk/ has info about their helpline too. I dont know of AgeUK having its own services, but it could be another which has info about others’ services.

I have found a couple of listings for decluttering service in Somerset http://www.dainton.com/benefits-of-decluttering-your-home.html. https://mylivingspace.blog/ But neither mentions helping hoarders or working in the conditions of your mum’s house. You could just contact them and see?

Also, local mental health services may have details of what they can provide and any other agencies. The route to that would be her GP, but it sounds like she doesnt see herself as having a problem? Unfortunately, mental health services are always very busy and may not prioritise her. Also they may not have someone who can actually visit.

The Council may run relevant services (try social services or environmental), but they are also short of resources. They might know of any other local agencies who can help? My local council gave me details of the cleaner/decluttering services they use.

But this may not include people with expertise of decluttering for hoarders, in their own home.

However, its worth bearing in mind that if the Council becomes aware of her situation they may recognise that her health is at risk, and seek to take some action.

It must be stressful and exhausting for you having to deal with this situation. Take care of yourself too. There is a good section on this website (look along the menu across the top) for ‘families and friends’
