ParticipantIt went really well!! (For once!) Ive taken 16 big black bags to the tip, donated 6 bags of clothing, 2 boxes and a keyboard to charity! Its slowed down a bit but im starting again tomorrow
It felt so good to get rid of it all. Really gearing myself up to actually finish as ive never been this close before! I can see the potential of the room again!
Hope youre well CQ

ParticipantThat is awesome progress Drowning91, you must be thrilled at what you have achieved so far. Could I ask if there is anything you did/ felt that made it suddenly easier to part with things? I’m getting much better at giving to charity but really struggle putting things in the refuse bin.
Good luck with your push to the finish line, I’m cheering you on

Participant<p style=”text-align: left;”>Thanks Peacelily!! To be honest it was being so fed up with the sorry state of it. Ive held onto some sentimental things but i was really ruthless with everything so far. I’ve still got a long way to go but now ive started and can see the potential of the room, ive been looking at new furniture and paint and new curtains etc which is whats spuring me on to actually finish. Clothes are a big thing for me like i have far too many but ive said if i could rid of 4 bags of clothes i could buy myself 1 new piece of clothing. And having that little reward really prompted me to donate the clothes. Now its time to tackle the other bits. Books are a big thing for me also and you cant just throw a book in the bin – not on my watch anyways! So books and other items that arent clothes are next. But again ill have a reward in mind and a target to reach for this. It was looking at my life and what i wanted my life to be and how very draining it was which made me just get going with it. Sorry for the ramble but maybe something helps :-)</p>

ParticipantYou wrote that you have not achieved much but I think you do not realise how much of the problem is all in the mind and altering how you are thinking takes time and effort.
Once you have got to the point where you can make a start, it makes a big difference.
Our finances have taken a huge hit recently and a couple of days ago I got notification of the new prices for gas and electric. I was so relieved to be able to find the cone of black yarn I used some time ago to make a beret which was a commission and now another has been ordered. It is only a modest amount of money, but many a mickle makes a muckle as they say.
I have been down with Covid, and things have slipped a little – but I was able to get up today and clear the sink, which is always a good beginning for me. I put some washing in the machine and then did a bit more tidying around the kitchen, then I made some tea – gunpowder menthos it is called. I had to stop drinking it some years ago as it tasted strange after my first go around with Covid, but this time although my sense of taste went away it has returned quite quickly. I went out to the shops in the chariot (mobility scooter) and decided to treat myself, and see if things were OK once more which is reassuring.

ParticipantHi Nana, sorry i didnt get the reply. Not much has progressed with me yet. However ive got a free weekend this weekend so will start with half the room today and half tomorrow. Its still an absolute state but easier managed now i think and means i can tackle half in a day. Im up after a rough night but coffee in hand. Just physcing myself up to get started
I have paint samples now so maybe deciding on a colour will help me see the potential again and spur me on.
Hows everyone getting on?

ParticipantHoard wise I am doing pretty well. I think it is the smallest it has been in 20 years. The “core hoard” has not been touched in months, I am afraid. I am happy to say that nothing has been added either. It’s in a corner in the basement. Yes, it is ugly and yes it makes it a little harder to squeeze by on the way to the washer, but at least it is not taking up any living space or making a room unusable. ATM I am working on maintaining the living areas.
Life is pulling at me from every side. Everybody needs something. School is rather demanding on the kids and I feel like work is eating me alive. I have officially reduced my working hours and have been thinking about quitting the last 6 months. After 6 weeks of GOGOGO nonstop it looks like at least the next 2 weeks will be relatively quiet. The plan is to catch up with work, finally clear out the corner in the bedroom that attracts random things and to get on top of things with school.
We repainted the kitchen and my husband is working on the stairwell. I am hoping to have that done by Christmas. 2,5 months seems like a long time for that, but its not at a house as crazy as ours.Hope everyone is in good spirits!

ParticipantPutting colour into a project is always exciting and energising. I have bought a camper van and planning what to do with the walls has spurred me on to finish the work needing to be done to get everything in good order.
