General Discussion › New baby in family
Your father isn’t sorting this so be brave and start conversations yourself. Use baby as the basis of the conversation, they have started to roll, stand etc and you would like to show them this skill. Tell your mother that you are concerned that as the child grows they will be getting into everything and you are worried that something might get damaged so can she move or put things away or out of reach. Just because they have a spare room doesn’t mean that you have to sleep in it. We stay at a local hotel when visiting family not because there is a problem (there isn’t) but it gives both sides time and space. Screaming/tantruming children will happen and it is very wearing for everyone so people need a break so sell it as this. You can still do going to theirs for breakfast or bathtime before bed at theirs but you then have your own space. There will be awkward moments but make this about how their house adapts to having a baby or toddler and the needs and not ‘you have a problem’
