I think you are beter off being a clean freak than a hoarder! At least you will be able to find stuff when you need it. I left home at 16 because I couldn’t take the mess anymore. My two sisters also left as soon as they could, but my brother is still living at home (now aged 28) and he is just as bad as our mum, and just making the situation worse by both of them living in the same house and encouraging each other. I think me and my sisters rebelled against the mess, and now we’re practically OCD the other way. Not with the obsessive hand-washing and stuff but definitely borderline obsessive about tidyness.
The only time you shoudl get worried is if it is preventing you from living a normal life, but if you are just a clean person, that is quite normal. Same as most people, except you never had a “normal” role model so you are most probably worrying uneccesarily.August 17, 2011 at 5:02 am #98453clutterbug
My mother is a hoarder and has various collections of items from spoons to thimbles to larger items and is at various times saying I need to get them valued or to put them up for sale but when the time comes and someone is in the area she has them valued but never sells. It may be that she has been told they are not worth much of worth something but in the end they never get sold because they may to her have formed a memory of where she got the first item from and then adds the rest of same items as gifts from people. What started of as maybe a one item that she found nice gets to being added to as gifts and self purchase got bigger and took up more room. She also is in continous mode of tidying up and sorting the boxes into keep, save and throw away but is just rechurning the boxes And placing them to the other side of the room.I do not collect but due to various circumstances of decorating and new kitchen etc I found that I fill up one room with stuff and could not get round to emptying it  as I did not know where to put the stuff
. I know my som is minimalist in is new house with no ornaments etc and bare minimum of furniture. My daughter does collect various items such as ornament etc but manages to keep a lovely decorative feel to the house without overcluttering. :o -
