I think a book by Jane Green ‘Bookends’, it’s a novel. I think I read it about 15 years ago, then found a copy ((in a charity shop)). Quite an apt title for the situation I am in.

And…have you started reading it? I rarely read books twice. I think I have about 5 that I kept for that reason. Every other book I have read that no one in the family might still read leaves to make someone else happy!

(submitted a post but its disappeared-maybe as had a link?)

CQ: very impressed! My home is absolutely stuffed with books! I do remind myself that you can get any fact and info online!

My hoard includes several books about hoarding- what a surprise!! There are several on the learn more/read part of this site.

Another book that is written by experts and is recommended is ‘Buried in Treasure’ by David Tolin and others.ย  :good: Search for it on Amazon? For info, you dont need to buy it from them! Its quite expensive and is a large book which I found a bit daunting, but I have read some of it and it is wise and helpful.

I have to be honest, I haven’t read a single one of those books. I benefit from people reading them and sharing their insight here. :mail:

I think the only way out for me is to just keep throwing things out and to stop taking things in…

I can’t pinpoint any loss or trauma to my hoarding. I think it is learned behavior in my case. That should make it easier for me to unlearn it…

When I go on Amazon, the books related to past orders is mainly books about clutter! 29… And I know that there are lots more of them! I did have a stage when I thought that buying books about clutter was really helpful and therefore guilt-free purchases. Then I realised that I had several and none of them made a big difference!

Reminded about Buried in treasures as what I said was a useful book – I need to do more of it! Ironically, its got all squashed in a pile of stuff!

The book was literally buried, eh? Here is my challenge: Lets see how many of the things on top of it you can part with!

The worst thing for me is, that I know it is NOT treasure that my stuff I am buried in….

You have some great suggestions for tactics!

Have started to have a look. As sometimes, I was pleased to find something important- a photo of my nephew when he was young enough to be cute- I’d think about 5. He’s now 28!

I’ve got distracted by the dancing emojis- is the one whistling new or just I havent spotted it before?! ย

you just haven’t seen it yet! :-)

I have a million tactics to dealing with the stuff. I found that changing tactics every now and then will increase efficiency!

                      Dear Queenie and Odd socks,

What on earth ๐ŸŒŽare you on about? LOL

But I have to say I acquired a couple of books from the good will sale at the church.

They are: The Victoria Letters: the heart and mind of a young queen. It is to accompany the tv series ‘Victoria ‘ and Knitting with giant needles by Hanna Charlotte Erhorn.

So now have to enjoy them, rather than put them in one of my boxes or on one of my piles.

Himself will give me a lift to the goodwill sale next week, so I can take box of books and dvds.ย  I will organise them nicely and maybe put in some home made book marks (if I can).ย  They are nice people at the goodwill sale.

maybe no book marks…that’s a bit much.

                      B

I’ve just remembered how my parents went to visit my sister just after she had a baby. Mum did lots of cleaning. Dad arranged all her (many) books A-Z by title. Completely different to how they had been! :negative:

CQ The treasure is a tiny proportion of the heap of dross!

Apart from being generally hopeless in chucking stuff, I am also very disorganised! I made the positive step of gathering things together, for example a box with cling film and foil (have far too much- that should go down to not needing a separate box) Even stuck a label on it. Week later I had no idea where the box had gone! I found it yesterday when I was looking for something else- I think your tactic about that is good.

I was a bit better in the bedroom as I made a list on a clipboard of where each thing was (T shirts blue bag top of table). Then lost the clipboard. :-( Then moved things while looking for something…! What I need to do is start again (have now found 2 clipboards!) More importantly, take bags of stuff to charity shop or recycle so there is less!

I am getting very good at things in grainy photos of US streets- fire hydrants (dont have them in UK), traffic lights then hills…ย  I need to post Jasmine again to ask if we could certainly still have the captcha when logging in, but not for each post!

Now I will waste some time enjoying watching the emojis and deciding which to use! Still not sure what this one is for B-) ย  is it being super cool?ย  Like this one best :yahoo:

B-) yup, supercool. Do yourself a favor and set your settings to “sign me in automatically” it will require for you to save your password to google but you will be signing in once every 3ย  months instead of every time you show up. My husband fortunately has me to help with the photos or he would never ever get back on to certain sites hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Can you just tape your list to a door. Where it stays and won’t be moved ? Or have it on your phone/laptop?

Parting things got easier for me over time. It is still hard but it gets easier. Sometime telling the item that it has no power over you and you are the boss might help.

Another thing that might help you is to just find a place for things. IF it is things you keep find their final destination. If it is things to go, just park them by the front door and get rid of them ASAP

The good thing is that I know know what I have, to a greater.degree.ย  From socks to shoes, from books to magazines.

I don’t have a show home, but the fridge and freezer are clean now and the beds have fresh linen every week.ย  I still have more than I need but I am o.k. and I am dealing with it.better.

CQ;Yes,it boils down to removing things and bringing less in.ย  (removing, not throwing it all away!)

Better with less: Knowing what you have and where it is definitely a good idea! Saves time looking for things (and messing things up when do so) and money. I have 2 of a lot of things. some quite expensive.

I know that sometimes people think it doesnt count, as not actually throwing things away. But I think it can be. In itself, and also as a start of decluttering.

Good idea to have things clean! I dont do nearly as much housework as I should. Partly as lazy , and partly as its difficult. Cleaning all the heaps of stuff before actually reach the normal cleaning underneath.
