Well done for getting there, you are so supported here :-) It doesn’t have to be something separate from yourself or to be afraid of, it is just an issue to work through step by step. You said you don’t need medical help, and that is probably true – I don’t believe in medicating for emotional issues but that’s just my opinion. You have taken a huge step in admitting it and reaching out for support. It could also be helpful however to use the ‘medical avenues’ – your GP – to go to the next step after this of having a trained professional to talk it through with and figure out an action plan to work through on a regular basis. That kind of structure (a weekly meeting perhaps) could help keep the momentum up of continuing to address this issue. I know how easy it is to lose that momentum in the humdrum demands of every day life, just something to keep in mind :-) Take care you strong, brave person, you got this!

Don’t be afraid to buy something which is going to make a difference to your life, and in this case, someone else’s – if you can make one hat with the colours you have bought, can you make a few more from yarn left over combined with some you have already got? Maybe donate those, or sell them – some schools take hats and scarves and mittens for children who turn up without them.

If you can make a purchase part of the solution rather than part of the problem then you have made quite a big step forward.

Very sorry to hear about your brother’s diagnosis, and your daughter’s experience. :( Fingers crossed for him.

Re that ‘all churned up inside’ feeling; it’s because you’ve only just realised the need to stop acquiring, at exactly the same time as you needing to acquire something.

Like all things pulling in different directions simultaneously it creates a form of dissonance which is always unpleasant, but as others have said general rule of thumb; don’t be worried about acquiring a) where you need to, and b) where you’re outing something to make space for the new thing.

You’ve made good progress. Well done with being so organised and going straight out and ebaying!

Being responded to with understanding, over most things, goes a surprisingly long way IME. :)
