Well, if it makes you feel any better I do know the:”I have no one else I could tell” type mom, too and wouldn’t you know it, she used that line on every single one of my siblings, and we all held the trouble in, as to not worry them and sucked it up as we figured if one of us has to carry that load it is plenty. She not only had us all carry the load, but she had us carry it in secret, so we couldn’t lighten it by talking about it.

we realized all of this years later. Probably a whole decade later. Yet another decade later I am still not able to let it go completely.

Why does she call you? Cause you will actually come.

If I were you I would just pass things like that on. Say, oh, I can call my brother and tell him to come fix it. Or ask the neighbor if it is okay to get his number so you can call him in situations like this?

Keep in mind, your mother might be aging and her decisions might not always be the safest, but she still has the right to solve things on her own. You could congratulate her, and tell her to try on her own first next time!

In the end the only way to change this is by changing your behavior. As Kim has mentioned the others might not like that and try to keep you in your place, cause it is more comfortable for them.

I wonder who cleans up when you are not there at family dinners?
