Oh my kids are splendid helpers! The downstairs is cleaned up, except for half of the living room. as long as they are given a clear assignment, and I  make them small, 10 min or less they do really well. I let them help around 3 times a day and boy, do they get stuff done! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

        Well done, teamChaosQueen :-)

You’ve reminded me that many years ago, when I worked with very small kids, I used to make their 5 minute clear-ups fun by blasting a particular pop song they loved (energising), and using a rainbow sand timer (strong visuals).

Each colour segment took 30 seconds to run, in succession. Great excitement had by “who can fill the biggest bag with Lego bricks before all 10 colours finish?”

Shame I’m not 3 years old and so quickly motivated…

You should give it a try, you never know it might just work, at least music might work

            Seriously. Where is everyone?

I have a million things going on right now and I want to fill up my house.

I need to remind myself to take a step back and pick one thing from my to do list and then stick with it until I am finished.

Hope you are all doing well!

I am having an Easter declutter party. Feel free to join. From today until April 16 th I will spent 10 min on “the pile” which used to be in the room of doom, got shifted to the hall and back. It is offering a complete new perspective as it has been turned up side down a few times. I will hunt for “eggs” aka useful things 10 min every day.

Feel free to share what you find!

              Day 1

I found 2 toys that were put away, 2 pairs of shoes that I can donate, about 10 items of clothing that my kids could wear and if they don’t want them I will donate them. Also a plastic carrier bag full of plastic carrier bags, that is now with the rest of the carrier bags to be used some day.

Hope you too find lots of treasure. Oh and yes, I managed to throw away a  strap of tape that must have once held a package shut and was now stuck to my carrier bags. I am a rockstar! :yahoo:

                Day 2

I was a little too overwhelmed with this task today, so I took 2 helpers with me. I asked them to pick out 5 things each. I think we ended up taking 20 things or more out of the pile. At least 1 item went into the trash (a craft that is years old and belonged to one of the helpers). We picked out all kinds of useful things like pencils, erasers, glue and so on.

One thing that helps motivate me is the chance of finding ‘treasure’ (like finding those ‘eggs’). :yahoo: Its unpredictable so I cant assume it, but great! I have realised I need to be organised and careful tho about where I actually put them!

I also remind myself of some advice that you shouldnt start reading/reminiscing things, as that slows you down. Easier said than done!

I haven’t been on here in ages. I could use some encouragement. Today I have done something I would like to quit for good. Instead of actually cleaning up I just shoved things into empty cupboards and drawers or in boxes and shipped them off to the basement. I know I will regret this later. I have invited people for a BBQ tomorrow and totally spaced that they fall into the category “pretend you have a clean, organized house”.
I have thrown away a few things and we cleaned up some. There is just so much stuff that I feel like I “have t” deal with, and I don’t feel like I can handle it today. OR any other day at the moment. Biggest problem right now. I am running out of places to shove things into to. I don’t mind messing up already messy areas, but I refuse to mess up my organized spaces.

Maybe I should quit cleaning up and do some “art” instead…

I will do a proper reply, but just to say that doing anything that reduces danger (eg fire, fall, stuff toppling) is a top priority, so congratuations on clearing your stairs!

Small and often sounds worth a try.

Decluttering when searching is good when possible! Sometimes I am in too much hurry. like looking for my handbag and shoes just before I need to leave the house.

I have the motivation of sometimes finding ‘treasure’ tho of course cant rely on that. Many sympathies about the plates!

There is the annoying motto of ‘a place for everything and everything in its place’ ,but I can see the attraction!

So, anyone in the mood to achieve something? I could use a declutter buddy. I have come so far. Sometimes that makes me feel “safe” and I think I can stop now….uhm. Nope….so anyone?

How a true hoarder evades parting with things? Easy. We have been traveling for 5 weeks and we had very restricted luggage space. As I knew I had bought a few things I picked a few things to part with. Guess what. I only parted with half of them because I still had room, left some behind for “when I come again” in thehopes that no one will find it and discard of it and had my child wear my brand ne shoes as the child’S shoes were broken and we hadn’t bought new ones yet. That meant I had to wear my old ones that I wanted to throw out for the way home…sneaky me. And tossed their shoes…oh well. I did throw out a total of 4 things.

MY current mental state is not one in which I want to worry about what to part with. I just want to get by with day to day life!

I did well today. I threw out at least 15 sentimental things. Like Christmas letters and the pictures that come with them. Too bad, they are so small and don’t make much of a difference volume wise. I have been taking iron supplements for a while and I am finally experiencing a bit of energy. Took advantage of it and started cleaning the house.  All over the place a little here, a little there. Made the kids clean up some. I think I can start to tell a difference. I think I have been doing well with reducing the amount of single items in the house. I have made an effort to use up all the half full bottle of shampoo and bubble baths that people seem to not see. Now don’t laugh, I have been wearing my most worn out socks, just to wear them out finally and throw them out. I have used tooth paste nobody likes just to be rid of it and I have done really well getting rid of any item of clothing that is broken or doesn’T fit the youngest anymore. I have given away blankets that are too small for the kids and been throwing out broken toys and pencils that are too short. I am getting there. I have even thrown out scratch paper that’s not used on both sides. It’s tiny steps every day, but they are all going one direction so I am MOVING FORWARD!

I have started working out a couple of weeks ago. I have a work out song. It is just the same song on a loop. I like the song, the speed is right and I don’t mind listening to it 4-5 times a row. The other day I was not in the mood to do my work out. I was grumpy and stubborn. I knew I should do it and that I would feel better. So I started the song and within a few measures of it I was ready to go and started my work out. So I wondered. Do you think that would work with decluttering? Like having a declutter-song or soundtrack for decluttering? And when you don’t think you can do it start the song and see how it goes?

I wanted to send an email today. Couldn’t not enough memory, tried to delete one. Didn’t work either. This almost started a fit of giggles. I then went into the deleted items folder. Only 899 emails. I deleted them in bulk. Then I went to sent emails. hahahahahaha more than 10.000! Deleting them in bulk all at once didn’t work. Remember? Not enough room. hahahahahahaha Data hoarding is a thing.

I am in a good mood today. I have decided that “I’m unstoppable” (you know that song that is in all those short videos with people doing incredible things? Well. I am unstoppable. Which kind of implies that I started. First I deleted the emails on by one, then I decided if 10.000 at once won’t work maybe 10 at a time will. So there. I am still giggling. I am not a hoarder. I am a person who is fun, creative and loving and I need light and space to be that to the fullest.

About 10.000 deleted emails later I am ready for the next action for more light and space and health. I ill not plan today I will go where my energy takes me. Nope. I am not crazy. I just feel like I can change things today and I will ride that wave!

                                  :rose:
