Now is the time
chaosqueen wrote:Welcome back! Hope you had a great vacation!
Thank you! I sure did.Things done today:
– Banged my knee on a doorframe. Will leave a pretty impressive bruise I am sure.
 – Returned a shopping bag full of water bottles to the store. Still have some bottles to be returned another day.
– A shopping bag full of paper/magazines put in the paper container. Still have about a handfull of bags to go.
– Two bin bags put in the container. Collecting day tomorrow morning, so will have a look tonight to see if there is room for more. Still have some big bags and quite a few small bags to go.
So difficult to let go of things. Especially clothes, papers and magazines and such because of the “what if”. But really, some of these things have not been used in years so it’s not like I can’t live without it. I keep reminding myself that everything that makes it out of the house is progress.

Participantwelcome back! you are doing great!
I can totally resonate with the difficulty in letting go of things…keep up the good work!!

Another welcome back.

Totally! Don’t forget that everything that doesn’t make it in, is as well!

Thanks! And you are right. I have actually been doing rather well at that, I think, ever since I joined the forum. Can’t remember having bought anything that did not have a purpose.
Not the most productive day today. Simply could not talk myself into attacking the remaining piles. Determined to do something though, so I have paired up all the socks from last laundry day while watching telly. Won’t be running out of socks this decade, I’m sure. Put them in the wardrobe where they belong. Even weeded out the most worn looking.
Also put another two bin bags in the container.
Probably won’t be doing anything in the house tomorrow as I have a hospital appointment in another town. Might take most of the day.

Getting a bit annoyed with myself. Today I have:
– Put two bin bags in the container
– Donated a shopping bag of clothes
– Done the dishes that have piled up from the last couple of days
I am finding it very difficult to talk myself into working on the remaining piles now that it is not quite as urgent, which is ridiculously stupid. Wish I was not always such a last-minute person.
Also the weather is getting hot, which is no help whatsoever.

ParticipantHello! I can resonate with that totally, even though I do not have your same urgency, I do have people that will have to come in the house (again) at some point in September, for various reasons, plus I need to be able to dedicate my energies to rebooting my work which has been so difficult in the chaos and “stuckness”
for me the trick is finding a point of entry
the least resistance to getting back into getting something done, then once you are back into the movement, it does get (a little) easier
what can be the best possible thing for you to do today that can help you move forward and also help you feel better in the space and better about yourself?
what is the worst area now?
can you start with the timer trick, or a delimited area, or a delimited category, like going around and finding one more bag of trash / recycling /clothes to sort or fill in the blank?

Thanks for the encouragement bluesyjay. Helps a lot. Attacked the biggest pile left. Managed to deal with about half of it. Really would like that corner cleared, so I can store some boxes there. Figured it would look better to have books and such stored in boxes rather than leaving them as piles. Need to sort them at some point before I move, but not a priority right now.
Having boxes against the walls might not look so weird when they know I am moving in december.
What really annoys me is the stuff lying around. Sorted stuff. Organized chaos, but would look like a complete mess to anyone but me. Can’t find a home for it though, while having unsorted piles still to work on – and bags that needs to go.
Need to focus a bit more on getting all those shopping bags full of paper stuff out the door.
Managed to empty two bags in the paper container this evening.
Problem is that I can’t carry too much at a time due to having back problems. But I guess I will just have to make a few more trips every day until it’s all gone. Stop being lazy. Two bags every day it is.

Out today: – 2 bin bags
– ½ full big trash bag
– 2 shopping bags of paper stuff
– 1 shopping bag of clothes
Amazing how much clothes have gone these couple of weeks. Have even more sorted to go. Haven’t gotten rid of any clothes in years, so a lot of it does not fit or is worn out.
Kept working on the big pile from yesterday. Almost finished now, but I had to shop for the evening. Strange to see that corner mostly empty. It has just been building up in years.
Pretty sure I have more shopping bags than the nearest store. It’s insane. Need to do something about that later on, but not a priority right now.

ParticipantWell done! Fascinating how does empty corners can feel so weird, don’t you think? August 25, 2018 at 10:29 am #111677Kim2014
Well done, sounds like you’re making good progress there.
BTW If you’re putting things in boxes against walls, it’s wise to leave a ventilation gap between them and walls and if possible under them, (last isn’t always possible.) to reduce chances of mold and must.
Charity shops will be likely to love your bags when you have time.

Thank you for the support, it really does help right now. Was not feeling well yesterday, so only got 2 bin bags and a bag of paper stuff out.

Today I have:
Done the dishes.
Finished sorting the big pile in the corner. Removed spiderwebs from that area and vacuum cleaned that part of the floor. Sorted the bookcase and put all the books that don’t have a home in a big box in the cleared corner. Put a box with magazines in that corner too. Also put shoeboxes (5) in that corner. There will be more boxes put there, but I will be very carefull that it does not start looking messy.
Removed spiderwebs, vacuum cleaned and dusted the corner with the tv. Removed everything from the tv table that does not belong there, sorted out the cords and added a nice yellow tablecloth.
Felt like I needed a “finished” space, as the rest of the house is (mostly) controlled chaos and a few messy areas.
Those two corners were actually the worst in the room, so huge improvement there.
Two unsorted piles left in the living room.
Attacked the biggest and got a nice surprise. About 1/4 of the pile contains a sorted pile of old newpapers. Had totally forgotten that. Means even more paper to dispose of (or hide for now as I not sure how much space is left in the container – wanna get all those shopping bags out first), but less time needed to sort.
Will get some bags out of the house before bed, but not sure how much more will be done on the house today.
Still have two full days with no other plans (so far), before “my guests” arrive on Tuesday.

ParticipantYeah! You got a lot done! Congratulations! Do you have paper containers on your way to work? Or is it more like a bin and belongs to the house? Do you know what day they pick it up? Depending on whats in there the newspapers might even “Create” room inthere, as they are heavy and will push stuff that is lose down. Fingers crossed for lots of room in the container! August 25, 2018 at 7:07 pm #111680Now is the time
The paper container is a small container with a locked lid. It’s shared between 16 appartments and only gets emptied every 6. week (about 3 weeks from now, I think). It rarely get completely filled, but I have put a lot in there these couple of weeks, so have to leave space for the neighbors too. We will see. Got two bin bags, an old pair of boots, and two shopping bags of paper stuff in the containers tonight.

Participantthat is a lot of work and a lot of progress! having a “finished space” does help a lot with a sense of completion, right?
I know that even though there is still a lot of stuff everywhere, the areas that I manage to “finish” up and look more presentable always make me feel better
keep powering through, I am sure the whole living area feels much better already!
you can do this!
