    Now is the time

Well things got in the way of my plans today, so not as much time to work on the appartment as I had hoped. :(

Out: 4 bin bags, 2 shopping bags of paper stuff and 1 shopping bag of water/soda bottles.

      Bedroom:

Pretty much done. All cleaned, no apparant clutter anymore. Very small room, so I don’t really have space to store anything there.

I need to change the bedding, which I will do tuesday morning.

Also have a small wardrobe being very messy on the inside. Probably wont have time for that.

      Living/dining room:

Cleared the top of a freezer that does not work anymore. Ideally it should get out of the house, but I can’t do that on my own, so for now it will serve as a table for the microwave that does not fit in the kitchen. (not because of clutter – I just have a tiny kitchen table)

About ½ the room is cleared and cleaned. The other ½ still have some clutter left and needs clearing and cleaning.

Still need to do the bathroom and kitchen too. Some clutter, but mostly ithey need a thorough cleaning.

Dirty laundry needs to be sorted too. Would like to have it washed, but no time.

Kitchen utensils and pots and pans need a rinse. Have gotten quite dusty with all the pile sorting and vacuum cleaning. Can be done tuesday morning too.

Would like to clean the refrigerator and clear and clean the closet under the sink. The closet is quite bad. But will only do that if I have time left when everything else is finished. Visible spaces first.

Also did the dishes this evening. Nice to have a clean sink in the morning.

Finding it difficult to ignore some things. Found a couple of stains on the carpet which really bothers me. The wardrobe in the bedroom does too. But I know it would be stupid to spend time working on those things, if that means not having the time to finish the more obvious messy/dirty areas.

you have done a great job!

yes, be careful not to get trapped into perfectionism, I feel that urge too, once we are at it, we want to make things better and nicer and more so

which, in my case is one of the reasons a lot of things never get done in the first place, all or nothing, so why bother if it’s not perfect?

I don’t think they will expect the inside of the wardrobe or under the sink to be spotless…?

most people are messy in those areas!

I would imagine they expect a fairly decent clean space, even if a bit messy here and there, that may be “normal”

        keep focusing on

visible spaces as you said, try going out for an errand or to throw the trash or whatever, and before coming back in, take a moment, breathe, close your eyes

put yourself in the mindset of seeing the place for the first time (not easy)

look at it through other eyes

we tend to stop seeing so many things

try to look at it through the eyes of the person who will come to check, if it was you, what would you look at?

        and focus on that

        you are doing great!

        you can pull this off!

will check on you tomorrow and be around if you need motivation and accountability

I will also be doing another full day focused on the house

If they want to inspect your wardrobe I would find that rather invasive. Unless there is stuff oozing out of it or flies circling it by the dozen they have no business looking into ANY of your wardrobes drawers or cabinets IMHO.

You are doing great. Remember, you have the “I am moving joker”. So even if they were’t happy with what it looks like you are on your way out and that will probably be smoothing things.

Of what you said I think you will be just fine on Tuesday. Breath in, breath out. We are with you in spirit. I personally would focus on really getting everything out that you plan to have out, no matter how.

Good luck! Although I doubt you’ll need it! ;)

yes, I thought the exact same thing about the wardrobe, but could not put it into words, it would sound like a step too much to be inspecting your wardrobe!

I somehow did not pick up on the fact you are going to be moving,

that gives you a double boost for all the work you are doing now!

it will serve you for the move as well!

You are right. I have been so focused on things needing to be perfect, that I was feeling very stressed because it just cannot be done. Way too much stuff and too little space.

New approach: would I be embarrassed to let someone in to fix something (pretending that they had never been here before)?

Living/dining room: About 3/4 of the room is done. Very clear difference between what is finished and what still remains.

Probably should vacuum clean again later (maybe tomorrow morning). Not much sunlight today.

Out so far: ½ full big trash bag + 1 shopping bag of paper stuff

Taking a break and getting something to eat.

              Now is the time

                Living/dining room:

                Mostly done.

Mostly clean, spiderwebs gone, carpet vacuum cleaned once. Need to do it again when all the bags are out. About 9 bin bags, 2 bags of paper stuff, 2 bags of clothes for donating and 2 bags of dirty laundry waiting to get out. Will need to go shopping later, so will get some out then.

Still needs dusting. Will have time for that tomorrow if not tonight.

The carpet has some stains, which is not good at all, but not much to do about it. Don’t dare to risk making it worse.

The blinds and windows could do with a cleaning and there is still a somewhat messy area (things I can’t find any space for, no trash, all clean), but it looks alright compared to how it used, I guess.

Smells dusty. Window is open but not much wind. Will have the front door open for a while tomorrow before they come, hopefully that will help.

Still need to do the bathroom and kitchen.

Feeling rather disheartened and my back is protesting, but will keep working. Wanna know that at least I have done all I can with the time I have had.

                  that is progress!!

                  it sounds so much better!

can you somehow find a way to throw out as much as possible of all those things that are ready to go? it sounds like a lot of volume

do you have anything that can be put on the stains, a smaller rug, a pretty fabric (unless that would seem worse as hiding something)

or can you put a plant or something on top of it, maybe a box?

for the smell, do you have any possible oil to burn or incense or spray

or even spritz a little eau de toilette if you have any here and there last minute

for what has no space, I think that as long as it looks neatly piled, or stacked it looks so much better, even if too much

wishing you a return of energy

sometimes a break does wonders, a quick shower, a brief walk outside…

                    Thanks bluesyjay

Well bathroom is as done as it is going to be. Not perfect, but presentable. More dirty laundry than I would like, but nothing to do about that now. Spiderwebs gone. Everything cleaned including walls and floor. Will give toilet another scrub tomorrow. Maybe let the cleaning product work over night. Will give some lavender scent too.

Washed my hair and will go shopping now.

Plan to get rid of some bags on my way out.

Still need to work on the kitchen. Will see how much I can get done tonight. We have rules about noise. Oh well, will have to get up very early tomorrow if needed.

                          Now is the time

                            Thanks. I hope so.

Actually I am feeling better about it today. I mean it is still somewhat cluttered, but not extreme. No piles to step over. Everything is against the walls and most is stacked nicely in boxes. And it is certainly much cleaner.

If I saw this place as a stranger now, I would think “this person clearly needs more space” not “how can she live like this”. Today I would be slightly embarrassed not totally horrified at the thought of letting someone in.

About 3 hours til they get here.

                            I still need to:

                            – Vacuum clean and dust the living/dining room

                            – Get the rest of the bin bags and paper stuff out

                            – Make my bed

                            – Vacuum clean kitchen and wash the floor

                            – Clean kitchen table and outside of cabinets

                            – Do the dishes

                            – Sort my shoes

                            Can be done.

Just hope they won’t open any closets, cabinets, wardrobe or refrigerator. :o

                            Now is the time

                              I SURVIVED!!! :D

He just poked his head into every room and decided that it looked fine. The whole visit took less than 2 min.

I am kinda grateful though. It would have taken me months to get this much done otherwise.

But I am very happy that I can do it at my own pace from now on.

you need to celebrate! HIP HIP HURRAY! :D

I agree these kinds of things have a way of making us speed up the process right?

yet the added pressure is tough

enjoy your new space in progress!
