Wohoooooooo! Doesn’t it feel like an even grater achievement when you know you were too tired to do something and still got something done?

        Yes!!!

keep that kitchen table clear and celebrate every time!

if you try to do just a little thing, even getting one item out, or one maintenance task done you will feel better

for example when I am feeling more difficulty and/or less time and energy

I focus on the “one thing out each day” (it can be recycled, donated, trash, sold, whatever)

it seems like nothing, but it really adds up,

plus it has a double effect

I feel like I am still keeping the thing going, because I need to have my modality declutter on to find an item to let go of

and also, more often than not I find a lot more than one item to let go of…

answering your previous question, I was shocked to find out recently, while being more and more aware and controlling of anything that crosses my threshold going IN that yes, I do have moments when I feel like buying something…

I was not aware of that, because I had always connected it to buying a specific thing, but I have caught myself lately feeling like I wanted to “buy myself a treat”

        and refrained

        keep up the awesome work!

You are both right. I really should do something EVERY day. No excuses allowed.

          Today:

          – Tossed those two bags from yesterday.

          – Tossed about 15 bottles. (sodas/water – I am not a drinker ;) )

          – Did some laundry – still drying.

          – Bought a holder for the cooking utensils. Not an impulse buy – have been looking for one since I sorted out the kitchen cabinet. Nice not having it taking up so much space.

          – Worked on a pile on the kitchen floor. My front door is in the kitchen – no hallway/entre, so the room works as both. Some things were bagged for the garbage tomorrow. Also have a nice stack for the paper container. Hoping to work through the rest of the papers there tomorrow. Sorted about 1/2 of it today. Keep in one pile – toss in another. I know I get distracted if I start sorting the “keep” papers into categories, so that will have to wait until the whole pile is divided.

Good work today! That’s some great progress on the papers.

I do struggle to do something every day, and that counts for a lot of things, but the best progress is often keeping that bit by bit approach at least to keep at a level. It is challenging but you are right, no excuses! I shall try to join you.

We’ll keep encouraging you for daily :) keep the flow in that direction

Good luck with the pile! I look forward to the days of no more piles around….

              oh yes NO MORE PILES!

              looking forward to that

the do something daily can be even a very small action, even something that seems so minimal it almost does not count

the thing is to “bookmark” your brain (read that expression somewhere and it stuck)

so that you remember to keep the momentum going and you actually have the reflex of doing even just a (small) step in the right direction

it could be remembering to put away something that we use after we are done (I tend to leave things around for later…sigh)

or letting go of one item

or washing the dishes/clearing the sink or making your bed

or in your case bringing out the trash for the day…

              NO MORE PILES!!!!

              Now is the time

Looking forward to the day there will be no more piles. However that might be quite a bit into the future. Until I have some storage freed I will have to pile while sorting. :(

                Today:

                – 1 small bag in the garbage container.

                – The paper stuff from yesterday put in the paper container (about 1 small bag too)

                – Laundry from yesterday folded and put in the closet. (sorted that closed a few weeks ago and it still looks great – only the top shelf needs some attention at some point – have no idea what is hiding there)

                – Most of my christmas decor have been put away (about time? )

                – 1 bag prepared to toss tomorrow.

                    Great job!!

I am full of piles and sorting too

but looking forward to that day of no more piles as well!

                    Now is the time

                      Well I am f…..

My window in the living room could not close fridag evening. Actually I thought it might fall out, it’s kinda hanging in one side, so I totally panicked because I SO did not want to let some guy in to fix it when my flat looks like it does. Pretty sure I would get kicked out if they saw how bad it is.

Anyway I was told by the emergency people on the phone that it could not fall out and to call my own janitor today.

Well I have not made the call yet. :(

Been working on clearing and cleaning for these 3 days – afternoons and evenings only, as I have work during the day.

So far the kitchen/entre is cleared.

A windowsill, the dinner table and a bookcase in the living room is cleared. Some floor space too.

Quite a lot has been bagged and boxed and put against the wall to be sorted at a later date. Right now it’s just emergency clean up. I can live with him seeing a bunch of boxes and black bags. But I can’t have trash and dust and spider webs everywhere – and having him climb piles to get to the window.

But I don’t have more space to put the bags/boxes and I have nowhere to toss all the garbage..

It will take forever to make this acceptable. Don’t wanna know what my neighbors are thinking about me with the 3 large bags I have put in the garbage already in two days. So embarrassed.

Well hopefully I have learned my lesson and never let things pile up like this again.

Hi Now. I’ve just read through this whole thread and it sounds like you’ve been doing really well. I’m new here and trying to work on my kitchen since last Thursday. I need to start doing a little every day. I quite like using a timer.

                        How are things going today?

Hello Now Is The Time, :) nice to meet you, and well done! :D

Your neighbours are actually probably thinking: ‘Blimey, Now Is TheTime is really spring cleaning/ re-decorating. I don’t wanna know what she thinks of us not bothering.’ That’s if they’re thinking anything. Generally most people are more interested in their own lives.

Unless there are obvious ‘signposts’ our neighbours don’t know what’s going on, it’s our guilt that makes us fearful that they must and are judging us.

I’m not sure if you’re somewhere that you can take stuff with you and dispose of it in public bins, or even work ones, but if you can, go for it.

Do the window people need to get at all the rooms? In order to not show maintenance people my situation, I once moved loads of boxes into one room, put a lock on a door, and said it was extra security because I had some hired equipment in there. They noticed the lock and asked about it as unusual, but of course didn’t ask to go in that room anyway, but if they had, I planned to say I’d left the key at work.

I really shouldn’t worry about the neighbours – having a clear out and having extra rubbish to get rid of really isn’t unusual and even if it is, why should it worry them? But it might be a problem if there is only limited capacity in the bins and one household is filling them up. Do you know where your local household recycling centre is? Could you possibly put a bag in the car and take it there?

great progress now is the time!

I have the same stress/shame over neighbours and trash, but I agree with what Kim said, they probably are not even interested…

                              Now is the time

                                Thanks for the support people.

Had a bit of windy weather yesterday which made the window even worse. Had to call for the people to come fix it. They were here today and were nice enough not to say anything about the mess.

I had managed to clear the hallway and about half the living room. Have a lot of boxes and some bags lined against the wall. Half the room still looks like c… with trash, clothes, news papers and stuff. But there was a cleared way to the window, did not want to risk them tripping over anything.

The bathroom looks worse than ever, but thankfully they did not look in there.

Determined that it will never get that bad again. AND that I need to make little progress every day.

Today I have tossed one of the big bags and done some dishes.

                                  I hear you…

it is really stressful to not live in a place we can open the door to in peace and no shame

and even more so for ourselves, and what it does to us, day in day out,

I have had a lot of people fixing a lot of different stuff since November (and there will be more)

and on one side I had the same reaction, of “never again!!”

on the other it has slightly reduced the stress, feeling of dread and being judged, a sort of exposure therapy

we can make it better! :D

and we owe it to ourselves! :D
