Now is the time
You are right. I feel so embarrassed about the state of things, but it was really nice to find out that the world did not end because I had to let someone inside the door. Also it is amazing to see how much floorspace I actually managed to clear in the last 5 days. Some of it has been covered in stuff in years. It is really nice to have access to the bookcase and table too. The cabinat part is still stuffed with all sorts of things, but I can sort through that later on. The shelves look nice, though there are still a lot of old tapes, which I can’t use.
Still so much work ahead but this has really made a dent in it.

ParticipantThat’s nice to read!
So the stress and emergency of having to have someone in did have two positive aspects
it exposed you to seeing that in the end, as uncomfortable as it was, “the world did not end” (same here)
it forced you to do more than you would have managed, and gave you an accelerated kick start!
and you now get to enjoy some victories of having access to new space and parts of the room
onwards from there!

Onwards fast, it appears. Just got an e-mail today that he complained to the landlord about the state of my flat. Now I have to have the place cleaned up before monday the 20th. Which I suppose is reasonable except I leave for vacation next thursday and are not home again before the 20th. That only gives me about 5 days to get everything in order. :o This seems completely impossible!
I suppose all I can do is keep moving forward. Hopefully if there is serious progress I might get a bit more time.
I know this is my own fault, but I seriously need a chance to make it right.

Participantrooting for you! August 3, 2018 at 6:40 pm #111627Kim2014
You are being offered a chance to make it right, so youre going to either have to work succesfully like the devil, or cut the holiday short. Which ever you do, also rooting for you. You
couldtry telling the landlord the situation, but I suspect a holiday as a reason may not go down too well. Any chance of any help or that any of it can be delegated to anyone else?

Thanks bluesyjay! Today’s work:
– Did most of the dishwashing (there was quite a lot) – a handfull of things left soaking for tomorrow
– Filled two shopping bags with water bottles to return to the shop tomorrow (why do I keep saving these things?)
– Sorted some clothes (from the bathroom floor and a corner of the living room
 ) and prepared 3 loads to be washed Sunday and filled a shopping bag to give to charityMight not seem like much, but I did have work today too. Luckily I have the weekend off, so will hopefully get more done.

Already cutting it short to be home on that date – can’t shorten it more than that.
I WILL succeed. I CAN clear up the trash, laundry and papers lying around. Can have the spiderwebs and dust removed too.
I just don’t know what to do with all the big bags that I need to dispose of afterwards. I can’t fill up all the garbage containers – neighbors need some space too. And I don’t have a car. But I will deal with that later.
Probably won’t have time to sort through all the cabinets and boxes.
I was just hoping for a more gradual process. I am really in a sorting mood right now, but I will have to wait with that.
Thanks for the support.

ParticipantYikes! 5 days. Good thing you started already ! Rooting for you! August 4, 2018 at 1:02 pm #111630Now is the time
Thanks chaosqueen! So far today I have:
– Done the rest of the dishwashing
– Sorted some cutlery
– Disposed of the two shopping bags full of water bottles
– Cleared about 1/4 of the bathroom
Not done yet for today.
I am at the state where I would usually give up on whatever project I had started. Whenever I start on something big, like clearing floorspace I always get overwhelmed and give up. This is not an option right now, so I keep going. Take breaks and watch some netflix while eating/drinking – then get back to work.
I am feeling down and a bit stressed out – but I am also very excited about how things will be when it’s all done. When I can walk in the door or wake up in the morning and not be greeted by a gigantic mess.

Well done!
If you feel overwhelmed remember you have the collective energy of all of us here saying you
cando far more than you think if you go for it. ‘If we brought it all in we can take it all out. ‘
Flatten everything you can that’s going out, anything like clothes etc that’s going out, if you can’t get it to somewhere, clearly lable it Recycling – it may help if the landlord ends up seeing what’s waiting to leave. If nothing else it shows you’re getting organised..
Wondering if ‘man with van’ run to the tip’s a possibility…

Finally learned why it should be spring cleaning. This is way too hot to do in the middle of summer. Sweating and dust do not mix well. Why does it always look more messy in the middle of the clean up than it did before I started? The laundry is moving into the hallway as I am working on the bathroom. WILL get this done, but AH such a mess right now.

ParticipantGO GO GO!
   we are all on your side, cheerleading along….
no I do not really have the ponpons but it would be no surprise if I did in the midst of my eclectic things!
 YOU CAN DO THIS!

ParticipantIT is messier because you have to pull things out to deal with them. Sometimes that can mean you are pulling out to much. Focusing on one shelf/drawer/box at a time can help with that. August 4, 2018 at 5:19 pm #111635Now is the time
Thanks for the support. Means a lot. Well, I had to accept that the bathroom was not doable in one day. Probably the worst room in the house. I simply ran out of space. About half the room is cleared. I filled 6 small garbage bags, 3 bags of (sorted) laundry and a bag of clothes to donate.
I have put two of the bags in the garbage containers already and reserved the washing machines for tomorrow morning. Getting up early to get it done. Gonna take a couple of hours.
Wondering if all that clothes will actually fit in the wardrobe… Guess that will need a more thorough sorting once I am done with Emergency Management.
I made great progress I think. This is still doable. “After all tomorrow is another day”
And I found some nice clothes I forgot I had.

ParticipantHurray for the “shopping in your closet” and the new/old clothes!
and hurray for the progress!

yes it does get worse when you sort, especially if like CQ says, you do not manage it (I always take out too much)
but also if the place is small (like my flat) and super full, whatever I do – apart from being struck by enlightenment and becoming a minimalist – it is inevitably sort of cramped
YOU CAN DO THIS!
